10 Effective Ways To Become More Productive At Work

Aug 2, 2022 | 0 comments

Did you achieve what you planned throughout your day? Did you complete all the tasks you penned down on paper? If not, then let me remind you that you are not alone. One thing is common for all humans: 24 hours a day. So how you manage and utilize the time determines the results you can get with less effort and time.  Here are some effective ways that you can follow to become more productive at work in no time.

1)    Stop multitasking

We all know that multitasking is something we can do to accomplish more tasks in less time. But is it worthwhile? Not at all. Multitasking is not a skill as it could be highly destructive and can diversify our work focus.

Earl K. Miller, a neuroscience professor at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, said, “Multitasking is not humanly possible.” Try to do one task at a time so that you can remain well-focused and save your energy.

2)    Take regular breaks

Studies show that taking regular breaks can positively impact your mood. They do not need to take one long break after having long hours of work. Instead, you can take more minor breaks of 10-15 minutes throughout your career. You can do the following things: take a walk, have a cup of coffee, have fun with your friends or even listen to music.

In addition, a popular Pomodoro technique states that after every 25 minutes of work, take a 5 minutes break. Doing this makes your mind recharged like a battery, and you can perform the tasks deliberately.

3)    Stop procrastinating

Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing tasks until the last minute. There is a Parkinson’s law that states: “Work expands to whatever time you give it.” when it comes to procrastinating, give your work a deadline. Think about why you are doing this task and the motive behind it.

Always remember about the person, things, and the quotes that give you enough motivation to get started from where you left. No one can eliminate procrastination; therefore, you can act in the following ways to at least stop it.

  • Set tight deadlines
  • Set up a schedule to strictly follow
  • Change the environment
  • Clarify your goals
  • Prioritize your work
  • Make the most of your free time

4)    Plan out your day

Whenever you plan something, then half of your goal is already achieved. Before the next day, make a to-do list – include all the essential tasks you will do- so you can be proactive. This way, you won’t be distracted by juggling the tasks one over the other.

According to the University of Scranton, 92 per cent of people don’t achieve their goals because they did not plan. Only 8 per cent of them actually achieve. Planning will give you ease to achieve your targets.

On top of that, set smaller goals as they will help you to achieve your results faster. Let me give an example. In an ODI of cricket, if one team is given the target of 300+ runs, they won’t just go to the ground to chase it. They will have a plan. They will set a goal and will break it up into smaller parts. They will plan to achieve X runs in the first ten overs without losing any wicket. Then they will add more runs at the specific run rate in the following overs, and gradually, they will be able to chase down their target.

5)    Manage your time effective

Effective time management is crucial when it comes to performing daily routine tasks. One key factor is that you should know what kind of person you are when it comes to performing various tasks.

Suppose that if you are a morning person, then you should wake up early, ignore the email notification, work out first, read a book, meditate, and then have breakfast. This way, you are already stepped into a productive routine.

Not every day can be super productive, but you can make it. Set up a timer clock, give specific tasks a given amount, try your best to accomplish it, and move to a new one.

6)    Eliminate distractions

Are you a social media addict? Can’t you live without browsing or socializing? That everyone does, it’s not your fault only. Now, what can you do now? You can set up a minimum amount of time to socialize on networks. This will not only increase your self-esteem but also decreases depression.

That’s not the whole picture. Physical fitness is also another factor you can’t deny of. Give yourself time to exercise so that you can be physically fit. You won’t realize that besides increasing your brain’s affective skills, exercise can also help you to fasten your learning and improve your creativity level.

7)    Be happy at effective work

Happiness can be a leading element in achieving your desired results. Research by Oxford University’s Saïd Business School found that happy people are 13 percent more productive. Make your work your worship and make happiness your core ability so you can be satisfied while doing anything.

To give you an idea, you can cover your office or workspace with the things that you love most or that make you happy. Place flowers, pictures, and sticky notes so that they make you smile whenever you look at them.

8)    Take advantage of commuting.

Commuting can play an essential role if you can use it properly. If you travel through public transport or via bus, car, or any other vehicle, you can save much of your time and utilize it. You can see the emails, can check the phone notifications or make a plan for what you want to do next. Besides this, you can also learn something new to fuel your career.

9)    Get enough sleep

Do you often get tired of long hours commuting, long working hours and responsibilities and sacrifice your sleep? You are killing yourself then. Research shows that 7-9 hours of sleep is mandatory for adults sleep in effective hours.

If you don’t get enough sleep, then your brain function won’t work properly. Getting good sleep is necessary for a healthy and productive body. It can relax your mind, release stress, and keep yourself safe from diabetes and heart diseases.

10)   Don’t wait. Just do it

Are you the kind of person who often waits for the perfect time and condition to come and do the work? You are making yourself unproductive. Never wait for the perfect time. Make it perfect for yourself.

Think about the things that matter the most and try your best to accomplish them as soon as possible. Time is money. Always keep in mind.

Conclusion

To sum up, by acting upon the above ways, you can not only become a productive person but can also lead to a stress-free life. Follow the things that can help you to get to your goals faster. Optimize time management, leadership, teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills that will help you achieve success in your life. With these skills, you can enhance your performance at work.
